Yumenoshima Skateboard Park is one of Tokyo's most comprehensive public outdoor skateparks, situated on the man-made Yumenoshima island in Koto-ku. Opened in November 2022, the park is divided into beginner and intermediate-to-advanced areas and features an unusually broad selection of obstacles for a public facility, including a full vertical ramp — rare among publicly managed parks in Tokyo. The park is informally nicknamed 'Horiume Park' (堀米パーク) in honour of Japanese professional skateboarder Yuto Horiime, Olympic gold medallist in men's street at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games.
History
Yumenoshima (Dream Island / 夢の島) is an artificial island in eastern Koto-ku, developed on a former waste landfill that was constructed primarily from household rubbish generated by central Tokyo between the 1950s and 1970s. Following its conversion to a public park, the island became home to several sports facilities. Yumenoshima Skateboard Park opened in November 2022 as part of the sustained public investment in skateboarding infrastructure that followed the sport's Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020. The facility's nickname referencing Yuto Horiime reflects the cultural impact of his gold medal on skateboarding's public profile in Japan.
