Ikebukuro Skatepark is a free outdoor skatepark situated beneath the elevated Ikebukuro Ohashi bridge in Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku. The under-highway position provides shade from the summer sun and limited protection from light rain, making it usable in a wider range of weather conditions than a fully exposed park. The facility features curves, manual pads, arcs, and banks suited to street skaters of beginner to intermediate level. A wristband for access must be collected from the nearby HIGHSOX SKATE SHOP, located approximately one kilometre from the park.
History
A previous skateboarding facility existed at Ikebukuro Eki-mae Park (Ikebukuro Station Front Park) and was relocated and expanded to the current under-bridge location approximately fifty metres further along the elevated structure. The park is one of a small number of free public skateparks along the northern arc of the Yamanote Line, filling an important gap in skateboarding infrastructure for Toshima ward and the wider Ikebukuro area.
